Carl Oscar Avén was a Swedish sculptor born on August 28, 1888 in Stockholm. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1909 to 1915 and at the Académie Colarossi in Paris from 1919 to 1920. Avén’s works include the statue of Gustav Vasa in Mora, the statue of Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson in Örebro and the statue of Gustav II Adolf in Gothenburg. He was awarded the Prince Eugen Medal for sculpture in 1946
